Therachat had een nieuw app ontwerp nodig en lanceerde daarom een wedstrijd op 99designs.
Een winnaar werd gekozen uit75 ontwerpen ingezonden door12 freelance designers.
Therachat is a mental health app that provides activities and guidance to improve mental health and stamina. Therachat provides activities for self helpers, or guided journeys for those looking for a little more instruction on how to best improve their mental health.
The style should be professional, authoritative, yet fun.
The UX should be easy for the user to understand the difference between their 3 main concepts.: SCHEDULED activities, LIBRARY of activities, and JOURNEYS.
Scheduled Activities - Activities that are placed on a schedule and delivered to the user at a specific date/time to facilitate a customized experience
Library of Activities - This is the list of all activities the end user can work on, at any time. They can browse the activities and start them whenever they want.
Journeys - These are guided packs of activities that are intended to be completed on a step by step basis. I.e. there may be an Anxiety Journey that has 10 activities, and each activity must be completed in sequential order before the next activity is completed.
Note: the difference between scheduled activities and library of activities is something most of our users fail to quickly understand. To provide a very specific example, imagine an "Emotion Tracking" activity where the user can track his/her emotions.
- If it is in the SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES tab, this "Emotion Tracking" activity will be made available to the user every Monday at 9 AM PST (this is an example of a schedule)
- However, the Emotion Tracking activity will always be available in the LIBRARY. Any activity found in scheduled activities will be in the library of activities.
We would much prefer a Sketch format over PSD, but can work with either.

Key concepts:
Activities - Have metadata like title, description, time for completion, icon, etc. Each activity is something that has an action (read content and click a button, read content and fill out a survey, write a paragraph/sentence, rate your emotions on a scale of 1-10).
Library - The list of all Activities
Journey - A group of activities that are meant to be done in a specific order. The activities build off each other, and the journey should show some sense of progress as you complete each step of the journey.
1) Home Screen - Here the user can view the current scheduled activities, the current journey they are completing (if applicable), and the library of activities. There should also be a link out to the Profile screen.
2) Library - This is a list of all activities that can be completed.
3) Current Journey - This should show some sense of progress (1 out of 10 activities completed). The user would understand the next activity they need to complete, which would have the same details as above.
4) Activity View - From the library or a journey, you would be taken to a view where you can complete an activity. This view would show specific text/icon/description based on the content of the activity.
Viewing our current app on the App Store or Play Store would really help to get a sense of most of the concepts. Journeys is a new concept we do not have designed yet. However, the rest is within the current version of the app.
The app can't be overly playful. The app can be cute/fun, but should still be serious. Headspace is a little too playful, but taking some fun aspects while still being fun is a good thing.
**** We have included our CURRENT style guide for REFERENCE ONLY. We would prefer the designer to think outside the box and come up with new and creative ideas, and have only included the style guide as a point of reference to see where we are coming from. We can also provide more content specific to icons/logos/etc as needed. Please do not feel it necessary to reuse ANYTHING from the style guide unless you feel compelled to. The winning design will not be chosen based on the use or lack of use of the style guide. Also note: We were required to upload low resolution style guide due to 99Designs technical limitations with file size. We will happily provide the full resolution version upon request.
